    Exclamation google serps question

    Hi,
My site is standing at location @ nr 32 for a top keyword, but when I add
-sdfsdfq -dsf -dsfsqdf -dqdfqsdf -dqfsdfqsd -sqdfqsd -sdfsdqfqsdf -sqdfqsdfqs -qsdfqsdf -sdfsqdfqsdf -sqfqsdfqsd -sdfqsdfsq -sdfqsdfsdf -qsdfqsdf
to the search box with my keyword
    it's @ nr #1.
This is really frustrating to see..
Am I being penalized for something, if so for what reason and how to avoid/solve such bans?
    Thanks in advance,
    TomTk

I wasn't sure what you meant, so I tried searching for one of the terms that I'm targetting and adding that to the end. I'm not in the top 200 in serps for it, but I'm #1 when that is added to the end. What does adding that jibberish to the end do? I tried doing a search on it with quotes to find out but it doesn't turn anything up. I don't think you're being penalized since my site is doing something similar. Maybe its a sandbox thing? My site is only a few months old.

    google interprets the -anythinghere
as a content filter, when you add to much of them, they will be ignored by google
and for some strange reason also ignoring some penalizations I think..

Interesting. I'm #1 when I do that too. I wish I knew what that meant!

I too rank higher when i use this. My postion is close to my rank in MSN and Yahoo. I wonder if it's got to do with backlinks?

Used to know exactly what this would do but can't for the life of me remember now.

Need to know again to follow a certain track I am on.

We need a definative answer from an expert.

Randfish dug up the old info about this a while ago. Start here on:
    http://socengine.com/seo/guide/sandbox-march-filter.html
    ...and link from there.

The extra search terms are meant to confuse (and switch off) the "hilltop" part of the algo... I thought G killed that trick, but apparently it still works (or works again)

There are two main ways to make a search more specific: 1) adding more terms to the query or 2) specifying negative terms in the query.

Probably Google uses different algorithms for more-specific and less-specific queries or, more simply, the more-specific query highly modifies the results of an IDF-like (Inverse Document Frequency) algorithm.
