Google Ranking Best for Plural or Singular URLs?

I posted a similar post under the general section, but this is specifically for Google, and has broader implications.

We own the singular and plural version of our URL. For example, cat and cats.com. For the past two years, we have had a 301 redirect pointing cats.com to cat.com.

I know for SEO purposes, it's better to use the plural version in title tags and URLs.

What is the best way to take advantage of the fact that we know more than 4 times more searches are being made on Google searching for the plural URL keyword? Should we simply start building links to the plural domain, which points to the singular, or should we flip flop our 301 redirect, and move our website to the plural version of the URL?

Many thanks for any insight!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think there will be much of a difference really. Google probably already knows your cats.com domain and it knows it is linked to the cat.com domain through the 301 redirect.

Using the plural keyword in title tags and URLs is probably far more efficient than switching the domain around (and Google taking the time to get used to this change).

So no, I don't think it will have quite the benefit. Others may disagree with me on this one. Any other thoughts?

Use the plural version if you start a new domain. But in your case i would not chance the redirect. Put the plural version into titel, descrition, ...., and build links with the plural anchor to you yout domain. You will rank for this therme as good as with the plural Domain version.
