Whats with so many listings from google places?! Maybe google are planing yet another update to show local searches (from google places) in the top 10 listings for each search or something?

I think this could happen in specific niche but it is growing rapidly. I am wondering if the future top 10 in natural listing can be bought with indirect way by purchase via local advertisement or something similar.

i'm wondering if SEO is now a part of the business listings..
My client was ranked #2 for his keyword - and is now #2 in the new business listings.
I also noticed the new listings are only showing up for the word 'dentist'. My other clients have not yet been affected - 'orthodontist' - 'plastic surgery' - 'eye doctor' and others still show the normal results.

most of us SEO pros noticed moren' a week ago...and I'm pretty sure that like me, their client rosters made out okay....oh, LOCAL success notwithstanding means that the time we spent getting clients to work on their LOCAL or Places pages NOW seems rightous, eh!
so the comment here about "not being a large discussion" is moot, eh!

Yes I noticed this a while ago but not with so many local/places listings at the top of natural listings.
I was just wondering if others have noticed the number of local/places listings go up so high for their clients search terms and if its only in certain niches that this is so high?

Was noticing these results too. Thing to take away is that optimizing for local SEO gets more important.
What I saw was blatant mis-categorization though. A couple of restaurants were labeled as a Sexshop. Don't know if that is competition, or if shady SEO's are trying to get more visitors from local, and resorting to less than ethical techniques to achieve this.

Cant say I have noticed that, but if the later is the case then google will notice and remove the wrong listings in time I guess.

I click on the search link and i only got 3 local listing results. But in my opinion showing a lot of local listing results is not good and most users don't like it. If Google wants to do it, we should call Google search engine, Google local listing engine in the future. I myself ignore local listing results in most cases.

@fortop...
sorry - "more'n" is a canuck shortform meaning "more than" -- so what I meant by that was that most of us SEO pros noticed more than a week ago..." and we've been testing and analyzing the new Google Blend/PlaceSearch layouts, designs and serp results.....
and as you may not know "focusing" on Local listings is now exactly what SEO is...one algo, one serp Rankings....ie there is ONLY one SEO now...

Why would you think this? Is local listings all you focus on? To me, SEO is still on the national/worldwide level - meaning ranking for keywords that have 100-200k searches a month. This is where the competition is, where you truly need to know SEO to rank in the top 3...
Doing local SEO, how many competitors could you have, 1-10?
Please explain why you say/believe Local is the only ONE SEO now..

Are you in this forum to help people or boost your own ego!? People are idiots because 3 weeks have passed with a new algo for local results? Google hasn't even implemented this to all local results it's so new.. But everyone should know about it? Like i mentioned, i personally dont focus on small local results with little to no competition/traffic. Any monkey could get top results for this and beat his chest like he is king of SEO - yes i'm refering to you.
It sounds like you need to take a break from these forums and do some real work. You havent helped anyone in this thread, go make yourself feel important and help your local fruit stand rank for the almighty keyword 'Hamilton Fruit Stand'..
