Google now stops when doing too many searches

    Hey !

In the morning, while having a coffee, I look at my main phrases on my sites to see if all is going as usual. This morning, after looking at a bunch of keys, google simply stopped doing the searches. I go on the .com instead to see if it may be a .ca trouble, and I then get a screen where I'm told to type in the verification code cause google suspect a robot is using my PC.

I guess they wanna save bandwidth, and at the same time get more accurate searches data by limiting the searches done by the webmasters.

    Anyone else noticed this ?
Disclaimer : My posts on SEO are just from my observations and I do not say it is a true fact... A real fact of life is that, I'm often wrong...

yeh its common to prevent you simply writing a script to automate mass searches

It sometimes happens when you are using plug ins such as SEO toolbar or SEOquake - Did you experience this phenomena after installing these plug ins? or using scripts to auto check a website ranking?

I had that problem once a few years ago. I think I ran some sort of online script. Unplug your modem for a minute, plug it back in. That should give you a fresh start.

Interesting...I've noticed a few times that if I am doing a lot of searches, I will get a blank screen on Google (i.e. no SERPS displayed), but I've yet to get a message saying they think I'm a bot.

Exactly, or it jams right there and processes no searches. If you get there, then just switch from the google.com to google.ca to see... that's when I got the message.

No scripts... just manual searches as I do every morning... been doing this for years, and never got this... but expected they would do something like this eventually.

a lot of people are trying to eliminate some of the google suggesstions that pop up as youre searching for company names.

Many businesses have poor reviews or the word 'scam' or 'complaints' as a popular suggesstion/ add on to their business name.

So, trying to brute force positive searches was 1 idea these companies tried to counter-act and of course scripts were wrote to search the company name without "scam" or "complaint" and instead added "rocks" or "best company"

Eventually, you will get the verification page from google if try 50 or 60 searches one right after the other.

I think your find that's what he was trying to say, resetting your router (if your not on a static IP) should give you a new IP and clear the problem.

If that don't work simple don't use google for about 30min and it should reset your search count. We had this problem once at work when I ran advanced web ranking at lunch time and forgot to change the settings to pause between searches, that kind of pissed the office off for a bit lol

Yes this happened with me a lot of times and even when I go to check the cache date for my site or any site I receive this message every time now "Our systems have detected unusual traffic from your computer network. This page checks to see if it's really you sending the requests, and not a robot."
We clearly can see that Google wants to get rid of robots.

But again the question why every time I receive this message even at very fresh morning and at very first search/ or checking cache date?

Do you have more then just your PC on the network?
Whats the activities of the other PCs and users on your network?
Do you have a program such as advanced web ranking checking your rankings?

All of these would add more searches from your network. As you may have noticed from the message you pasted google takes these actions on the amount of searches from a network not a single PC so check whats going on with others using your network is the best way to find out why you keep getting this problem.

As I said I managed to do it once at work from not setting pauses on AWR so maybe someone on your network has a similar program/script running each night?

If not maybe you could contact your ISP, explain to them the problems your having with google and ask if they could check. On that note do you have wireless? If so make sure someones not hacked into it and using your connection.

Google's Terms of Service do not allow the sending of automated queries of any sort to our system without express permission in advance from Google. Sending automated queries absorbs resources and includes using any software (such as WebPosition Gold™) to send automated queries to Google to determine how a website or webpage ranks in Google search results for various queries.

    http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=66357

If you are using software to send automated queries check to see if it has a time-between-queries feature. Mine is set to 30 seconds.

Thank you for clearing up my initial suggestion. At least I didn't say ctrl-alt-del and reboot.

Well, it happens to me from time to time when doing a simple search (no script, nothing automated, only one search), but .... from the office. We are something like 25,000 people using the same corporate proxy server, with a unique IP address on the WAN. I guess that part of these 25,000 people are searching Google at the same time (instead of being working ) causing Google to think that it is a bot actually sending queries.

It occured once from home, but I realized what was wrong: I had used the "agent switcher" plugin to look at some sites as if I was Googlebot, then forgot to switch back to standard agent: Google doesn't like when Googlebot initiates a search query.

Well Nathaniel I also have same thoughts but I'm using single PC, no network, amazing? But your third point for which I think I would have to believe that there is any adon disturbing me as I have many many adons installed on my browser which can be a reason of this issue, now let me find what adon is pinching me.
