Google indexing my sitemap

Hi guys,

Google has indexed my sitemap. Even if I submit that link to be removed through Google Webmaster, I still need to disallow it in robots.txt (but I dont think I could disallow a sitemap in a robots.txt).Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

I'm not quite sure what you are trying to achieve here.

In robots.txt you can dissallow your sitemap.xml from being indexed from googlebot (the organic crawler / robot / spider) but you have still told google to index your sitemap.

You could delete your sitemap.xml (note it doesn't have to be called sitemap.xml you could call it alotofurls.xml for example).

So that I understand your requirement better, why do you want Google to ignore your sitemap and what are you trying to achieve with a sitemap and with restricting specific URLs?

thanks

OK. I just want to remove the url linking to the sitemap to not be indexed. But I think you replied to me. If I can disallow it without preventing Google from reading my sitemap, then It should be fine

Thanks

The important this:
a. If you have pages that are not important, you can exclude it in the sitemap.
b.If you want to remove pages in the index, you have to block it first in robots.txt before removing it in the URL removal tool.
