Google Had Top Spot Then Disappeared

I am a little confused. I had the top spot 2 times in my category and then totally disappeared off google for a few weeks. Both times I eventually reappeared, but now it has happened a third time. Can someone please tell me what I may be doing wrong.

you might want to work on some more inbound links, what you describe sounds like freshbot activity... how long has the website been up?

More questions???

It has been up for about 5 years, but has changed dramatically over the last few months. When you say inbound links, are you referring to other sites linking to us? Also, what do you mean by freshbot activity?

you can check inbound links by searcing in google for "link:www.mysite.com", the higher the number the better.

also download the google toolbar and check your PR. You want a PR of 5 or more (4 is ok but 5 is better). You want to get inbound links from sites with PR4 or more.

Freshbot is a 'spider' that google sends out to look for updates on sites that are known to be updated. Monthly google does its deepcrawl and uses "deepbot" for that. When the deepcrawl is not going on, freshbot is used to go to pages that are updated, and picks up those updates.

Are you saying that maybe I showed on the top for a few days then fell off because freshbot saw updates? Thanks
