    Google autocomplete 10 or 4?

The autocomplete for years was at 4 listings. I tweaked it to 10, but am I wrong, is it now default to 10?

Seems like it used to be configurable to either 4 or 10. Then it finally resolved to a default of just 10.

Thanks, Sandy, curious you others. Do you think Google will ever allow brands/ companies to control a bit like they used to with Site Links? The auto-complete can be very annoying and inaccurate to brands and companies. They get sued for this all time.

If what you meant is ---

Do you think Google will ever allow brands/ companies to control [it = autocomplete results] a bit like they used to with Site Links?

--- I think they won't. That would very much ruin the search experience. Autocomplete predicts terms based on what you are typing, your search behaviour, and the majority's search behaviour. It is trying to serve a need for quick delivery of what you are trying to search for - not what companies can bid/pay for.

They were able to do it with AdWords but the ads never really make up majority of the results. I'm not sure a similar method can be done with Autocomplete wherein paid search prediction can be presented along with non-paid without ruining the search experience. That would be a lot of dropdowns.

Thanks Sandy, what did they do with Adwords?

Remember site links and how they allowed control for awhile.

Let's say name is Joe Blow and they have red shoes and you stopped selling red shoes. Or Joe Blow A hole (another guy)

Let have lost lawsuits on this. The world was better before it.

What I meant was that Google allowed brands/companies to "partially" control what will show up on search results through AdWords (i.e. PPC ads). But organic still occupies majority of the results so good search experience is somewhat preserved. I don't think they could do the same with Autocomplete.

I'm not aware about sitelinks being officially controllable in the past. Also, I didn't get your sample situation (Joe Blow).

PS: We might be reprimanded for shifting the discussion to sitelinks on a thread about Autocomplete.
