    GOOD Keyword Tracking Tool

    Hello All..

I have been using www.digitalpoint.com's keyword tracker tool for some time now.

For some reason as of late though the tool doesn't seem to be working properly. One day it will indicate my ranking has dropped 9850 spots and when I check on Google, Im #2.

Is this b/c of some of the issues Google seems to be having in regards to its data centres?

Can anyone recommend a good keyword tracking tool?
Of course this is usefull so I can track the progress of my clients websites and provide them with stats on their improved rankings.

    Thanks

    CLIFF

critter, this is a problem with the Google API server. It has been having issues over the past two - three days. Any keyword checker that uses the API has been having difficulty. I recommend that you give it some time.

Google not only fixed the API servers, but the IP addresses of them have changed, and they seem quite a bit faster now too.

www.digitalpoint.com is pretty good one. Thanks for telling me. Usually I use Overture's keyword suggestion but it does not give me the daily percentage of frequency of terms. This one does, which is terrific.

Hey Shawn, I'm still getting pretty erratic rankings with your tool... You sure they fixed the api problem?

I have been using the keyword tracking tool for some time. It shows those huge drops for whatever reason but often if try it again they will come right back. some fluke with the api server. also I noticed that some times it doesn't pick up my position if google cached the url without the www. in front of it. That little uirk has never caused too much issues for me. I'm happy. Most tracking tools violate googles TOS and cost money. Digitalpoints is free and follows Googles TOS>

In regards to the www vs. no www, the best thing to do is just enter the domain alone... it's a pattern match, so it will then pick it up either way. Check #13 on the FAQ for more details...

Thats right Digital point. I did that a couple of months ago and it helped up until this past week when the API started misbehaving

I think Google's API servers actually got an upgrade in the process, because they are noticeably faster now.

I also ended up making some changes to the keyword tracker in case it happens again... I put a monitoring system in place that will automatically put up a message on the keyword tracker to let people know if the API servers are down, and for how long they have been down. Then when they are back up, the message goes away. That should cut up most of the 1,500 or so emails I got asking what's wrong with their keyword tracker account.

I also ended up bumping up the number of allowed concurrent connections to the mysql database. While a "check all" is running, one connection per thread is open to the database server (until it's finished). The API servers were so slow, that the queries were timing out (which is fine, except they were taking so long to run, more than 100 check all threads were running at once). The problem with that is mysql by default only allows up to 100 database connections at a time. So that was raised up to 500.
