Glitch in the Matrix?

Hello

Can anyone replicate this:

1): Go to www.google.co.uk

2): search for: forklift safety training

3): search the first 4 pages of results for : ashbournesafetytraining.co.uk

4): If you see what I do then you want find it.. so do and advanced search for forklift safety training showing 100 results at a time.

5): Then go back to www.google.co.uk (so you aren't on advanced search anymore)

6): search for: forklift safety training

7): go to page 3 of results and find ashbournesafetytraining.co.uk around position 27

This has been happening for me for a couple of days now.. anyone else see it?

When i used the Advanced search option (100 results), i see your website at 37 position. When i used the Advanced search option (50 results), i see your website at 34 position. For normal search at 27 position. Actually i never new about such type of glitch. But i think people don't use advanced search options so much. Do they? And what promoted you to search rankings like this. Anyways thanks for highlighting the issue.

Hi

The glitch is not the differing positions when using Advanced search,... It is that if you don't use advanced search then the site is not listed anywhere at all... an advanced search then brings it up, and subsequent normal searches then include the site..

That's the glitch.

The issue you are highlighting is'nt supposed to be a glitch. Its pretty much normal for a site to differ by a few positions during a normal 10 search and an advanced 100 search.

@channel5: I did try the complete process but did not see anything like you've mentioned.

During a 10 search, i found it at 27 and in an advanced search of 100, i found it at 37. Thats it.

Hi Channel5

I see this today on that SERP.
I am on DC - 66.102.9.104

One thing I looked at - do a WHOIS lookup on www.domaintools.com.

The server response code is 200 but it doesn't report an IP or location for the site.
This could be a DNS issues.

The one thing I was considering was whether this is some Geographic based detail.
Actually I notice, if you check UK only search it comes up first time.
If you have the web selected rather than the UK it does not come up unless you do the advanced search 100 per page and then go back.

My assumption here is that Google is trying something new with Geographical based search. After you make a search refinement it no longer applies the same factor.

Trouble is 90% of UK based searches do not check the UK only option - leaving sites with this option a bit stuck!

I think we need to identify why a WHOIS lookup can't resolve the server.
A reverse name server lookup shows a non exisitng domain from my command line.

The same tool shows IP location to me as Germany

It comes up at first time (position 27) with web selected option also. No need to do advanced search.

I think this is just some data center hiccup.

I think its a bit more than a hiccup.

The fact is I tried this yesterday on a different DC and it didn't happen.

Today the issue happens.

When I search first of all for the web this site does NOT show up, thats more than just a glitch.

I will investigate this further.
Now I get that its in germany on domain tools and also can see the server when I do a reverse domain lookup.

The DNS servers could be problematic.
