Getting out of quicksand - advice needed

I'm new, but I promise I've read all the stickies and searched the forums. I can't see anything obvious that I did wrong, and am asking as nicely as I can for help because I really, really need it. My business has tanked since this happened, and as it is how I pay the rent and feed the kids, I am panicking.

Here's my issue: About 6 weeks ago, I went from being ranked #3-6 for searches like "honolulu child photographer" and "hawaii family photographer" on Google, to now not showing up anywhere in the first 10 pages. I honestly don't know if/where I show up at all anymore.

I should note that during this time, I had a splash page even more limited than the one I have now. I've owned the domain since 2001.

I switched over to a blog as my main page around that time, and have since switched back (and yeah, need to update the blog). I've tried various combinations of keywords, and I'm aware that right now I might have too many. But if you Google "child photographer" you'll find most of the top 10 are spamming in various ways and still have great rankings! I'm trying to hard not to do anything wrong but still get ranked.

On Yahoo, MSN, and Ask, I am ranked #1-3 for "honolulu child photographer".

On Google, I show up as #1 under one of those ridiculous "directory" sites that I've been forced to submit to just to show up in Google.

I have AdWords, as you can see from the right column.

Oh, big "duh" - I am at windwardskies.com

Thank you so much for your insight and wisdom!
Thanks so much for your help!

So, you changed all of your url's... and then changed them back (going to and from the blog structure) and you're wondering why Google is confused on where you should be or what pages are valid (I'm assuming that the supporting pages changed and that you didn't 301 them to the relevant new pages)?

Sorry if I'm missing it.

Not quite.. I did change the home page from a splash page to a blog. However, the original index.html wasn't changed; it simply loaded index.php as the default instead. When I switched back, index.php remained just the same; however, index.html became the new default.

I have several photographer friends who have switched from a splash to a blog as the main page and have had an almost immediate increase in ranking. No one else has dropped.

In the 3 years I've had the site, I've been on the front page for relevant searches. This is the first time I've fallen off, and I'm positive it has to be something besides the blog.

As a side note, around the time when I dropped, my nearest competition also went from #1 position (and others from #6-8) to either the bottom of page 1 or the top of page 2, so I'm wondering if there's an algorithm change affecting us. As I mentioned previously, portal type sites with our info/links are coming up before our sites.

Ok Here is something for you..

I did a quick site: search on google to find out that your website has just 15 pages

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rlz=1T4HPAB_enUS273US273&q=site:http://www.windwardskies.com/&start=10&sa=N

Most of your back links are sitewide i.e they come from this blog/site:

http://www.hawaiistories.com/archives/006101.shtml

So perhaps, just one will be counted rest all nada!!

Since it is a Photography site, as expected, its full of images, which is good, but somewhere the deprivation of content can be felt..

The anchor texts used to build backlinks is useless, Its your name I guess :
Here are the anchors:

Lisa
Lisa Hoang

While, you should prefer to use keywords in your anchor texts at first, then make those natural ...

And if you omit the hawaiistories backlinks then your website is left with nothing but a just a few links.. and with that links you cannot make it on top.. you would need more links.. since google discounts sitewides..

Overall, Enhance content, Get more backlinks, Use KW rich anchors and watch your site grow... Thats all for now.. Once you see improvements with those then we can proceed further with your questions

Hope that helps

Thanks so much! I had no idea about those links- they're ancient. There should be many more links than those- I have Google Alerts set to notify me and I've had a few lately.

As I said originally, what I don't get is how I went from being at the top of page 1 for over 2 years to suddenly gone entirely from Google, while remaining at the top for other engines. I honestly think I've been greylisted somehow.
