    Fundamentals of Search

    Hey Folks,

Simple question about fundamentals in search:

Given a paragraph, placing it on two separate sites a few months apart with separate markup around the exact same content, how would Google index and rank these two pages vs other pages or each of the two pages?

I can't really post a link back to my site that outlines with images some odd behavior (forum rules) in search that raises that fundamental question but it essentially boils down to the above. Bing, Lycos and Yahoo etc differ significantly in this behaviour vs Google. It's actually very intriguing.

Reason for this question is directly connected with original author content vs how it is visible against duplication. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

    Cheers,
    TK

I'm really not quite sure what your asking..the link didn't help either..it's a 404, unless that's what your asking.

404? Try the main page so just the domain name. Post is first in line.

I got a reply from some of the Google reps. Apparently Google doesn't honor age on posts. Essentially what this means is that unauthorized but exact copies can rank and often do rank higher on Google. Bing, Yahoo, Lycos etc work differently. See the Google link on the page for the google forums post. It relies on manual complaints.

    TK
