    Footer links

    This will probably sound dumb to you guys but here goes. I publish 3 websites using frontpage. I am making a nice income from adsense, not great but getting better. I want to move the content of one site to the other which means changing the navigation bar at the bottom of each page. My footer links are changed on each individual page. Lots of work. I have been told I can somehow put a file up using frontpage and each individual page calls it up. In other words if I ever need to change this again I only need to change one file not every page which I have done in the past.
    Does google see these links the same as physical links on each page. Laugh if you need to but I am thinking of the countless hours I have spent changing each page whenever I change the navigation, add something or even the copyright date each year. I am a sad case please have pity on me.

    Sounds like php includes command. Sounds complicated but is very simple. I use them on my site and indded saves masses of work. Ideal for anything that appears sitewide or on lots of pages eg menus, adds, footers etc etc.

    Basically you set up the code for the footer in 1 file and called it footer.php Just put the code there - no head, body, doctype ectc) upload it to your server with ftp.

    On each page on your site you call up the footer from where you want it placed using this command :

    <?php include("footer.php"); ?>

    Make sure you get the file path right and call the web page .php eg

    www.mydomain.com/index.php (as opposed to index.htm).

    So long as you use html links in the include file then google sees them as html links. What happens is the work is done on your server so when the page goes out it just looks like a normal html page as yours does now.

    All will be fine and if you want anymore help please just ask.

    You can also do it with FrontPage shared borders or server side includes.

    Dont feel bad, I used to do exactly the same myself. Infact There is still some things on mysite should be done this way, But at least I got the menu and footer changed. Pays dividends when Microsoft update browsers and you css menus stop working (what a stressful time that was).

    The methods describe are the best ways to do it from the start.

    For your existing site try this.

    Using dreamweaver, you can do a find and replace with the tool and update all the pages this way.

    just make sure you are find and replacing source code and not text.

    This should make your current task a little bit easier.
