Footer link will it cause problem?
I want to ask for suggestion from y'all
I notice some hosting company that offer Free hosting they put their link on the footer site wide on all the sites.
Is this a good way getting links? since all those Free website will have unique content BUT the problem is the links same across the whole pages (this is contextual text links) not just <anchor text>
Tell me if this a good idea? will it harm the website ranking?

I honestly don't think the links themselves could be harmful. But what I would worry about is the typical use of a free website host. People tend to use them for spamming among other devious acts. Google may look at your site, see you on the same C class IP and penalize you because they see you as another spammer trying to rank. You're best bet is to take your website and placing it on your own host doing your own thing. You can get very cheap for less than US$10 a month.
As for your question, the same goes with the links. They could be taken as a link farm to other spammers.

It works well, or should I say did work well for templates. There was a site which in less than a year took a 1st page ranking for the term "web hosting" solely via free templates which had footer links like you mention. They had that position for a couple months, maybe 6 or more, I don't really recall... but they are gone now. And I can bet it was because Google cracked down on sites who held major positions based largely on links like that.
Now for small sites I think it can provide some link value, especially if the link text is changed and is not identical on every site the template is published on... however i wouldn't depend on them for a 1st page ranking. I would make sure my rankings were well fortified in other areas. I believe had the host I mentioned used their brief time at the top to fortify their positions that they could have held it. It wouldn't have been hard at all... but I have to give their SEO credit for getting them as far as he did, they must have made some serious money.

If you are talking about sitewide links from someone elses site to your site, they will only be counted once by Google. But if the sitewide is on a site with more than 20 000 pages I personally belieive it is pretty dodgy and something I wouldn't recommend doing myself. Maybe this is going toward grey areas of off page seo.
Matt Cutts has stated that Google treats footer links differently, and I'm certain that it doesn't mean they're given more weight.

.
Thats going to depend on the source.
in the footer of joomla.org you have an anchored text link
"joomla hosting"
They are #5 in serp results for "joomla hosting"
Joomla and all subdomains have over 20k pages
BUT Joomla is like #57 for top linked to domains on the web.
All links from joomla, and subdomains, EXCEPT for forum.joomla.org are very trusted links.

Yes it is working for them, but I think they are a big brand and they can get away with being more aggressive with their campaigns. I wouldn't recommend it with newer, less trusted sites.
I think that link would only be counted once. That site has a stack of links. Good point though, thanks Alex, just having another look.
