Expanding from local to national market?

For a few years the local site has been relatively successful. But now we want to expand and go national but don't have a clue?
Is google always going to consider us a local business? If so, how do we change that?
    Advise please.

Get a few national links and write a relevant content for the national keywords that you try to gain

I've helped a few traditionally local companies go from local to national and national to international.

I think the easiest way would be to build a page for a couple of other cities you want to target.. perhaps based on what GA is telling you.. optimise these for the local audience and then find some localised links perhaps from meetups, organisations relevant to your biz.

I'd recommend Rankinity to track your progress, it's pretty good for localised rank tracking and affordable.. (not affiliated with them).

Find Out relevant keywords where you want to gain and make great content related to your target audiences, Create national level backlinks and you can also rock on national, all the best.
