It will not "harm" your rankings.
Google takes multiple into account in assigning relevancy score
* IP address of your web host server
* TLD of your domain
* Specified geo target in Google Webmaster Central,
However you can outrank an .au tld domain hosted in Australia by non country specific TLD hosted outside Australia if you have one superior edge – LINKS !
