Question Duplicate Page issues after adding multiple reviews

    Hi,

We have an Ecommerce website and I have allowed 3 reviews per product page, then it moves to another page for 3 more reviews making duplicate url page for the same that looks like this

    https:// www. xyz.com/xyz

    https:// www. xyz.com/xyz?pagenumber=2

How can I stop this? I am sure I cannot put it into the robots.txt since this doesnt have forward slash(/) ?

    Thanks

I'm not 100% sure, but wouldn't a canonical solve this?

But then, this doesn't seem that bad. Google only punishes "malicious" duplicate content - that is, content that is duplicated for the purpose of manipulating SERPs results. That doesn't seem like what this is, so I feel like it's probably fine. In Google's duplicate content guidelines they even mention that sometimes, for some sites (ecommerce ones in particular) some duplication is inevitable. Of course, you should try to minimize it.

But also, this isn't really duplicate content because the reviews are all different. Are you worried about the fact that the URLs are so similar? I don't think that will be a problem. I don't think duplicate content refers to URL structure, though I could be wrong: https://support.google.com/webmaster...er/66359?hl=en

Technically Mark is right but then again any URL that contains non-descriptive text is a wasted URL. What you really want is:

xyz.com/xyz?reviews-page-2-of-3 ... or something like that. Your H1 tags (etc) should also be updated to match and show Google that the first page is about the product but the second is about reviews. That might include skipping some product info on pages 2 and beyond in order to highlight the page focus on the review.
