    Duplicate Meta Descriptions

I'm using a CMS to manage a large site. The Meta Titles are generated dynamically which is good. However, this is not possible for the Description. There is the option to set a global Description. I'm wondering if it is better to have a Description that will appear on thousands of pages, or if it is better to leave the Description blank. It seems that a lot my less important pages are showing up in the supplementary results. I'm wondering if having a duplicate Description is the culprit.

Much better to leave blank. SE will than display a snippet from text on page..

I figured that is the case. I've read that Google ignores the Keywords Meta Tag. Is it possible that I was also being penalized for duplicate keywords, even if Google skips them?

No...Not keywords meta..But in recent past duplicate meta description was a source of supp index. Google seems to have fixed this problem now. But IMO better to not have duplicate meta content description. The snippet from page is better for CTR on the whole.

Do you think it would be problematic to leave the global keywords in? Also, any idea how long it takes to get out of the supplemental results if some of your content was penalized?

Keywords are useless..No major SE use them. I have seen recently put forward by garythescubaguy that (in his opinion) meta keywords can still have an influence in SE determing relevance (I am very sceptical of this but this man is well worth listening too) Still even if he is right I dont think global KW would do much as the KW would need to be page relevant to have any effect on relevance here (I would think). mainstream view is KW are a waste of time far as ranking goes.

Supp index mainly caused by lack of link juice. Give a page a link from Home page should come out of supps (duplicate content also casue of supps). Another good way of reducing supps is deep links. I use article submission for this mainly if the page is unable to attract 'normal' links.....
