Duplicate content (or website) and Google

Hi all,
I keep reading about duplicate content and worse duplicated web sites and how bad it can be for the SERP on Google so here is my question: what stop my competitor to copy my site and create 10 sites identical to my site and that it I can close my business? I'm sure that Google took it as an option.. or at least I hope so.

From the duplicated sites google picks one, which he shows in the SERPs. The others will not show up. As long as your site shows the content first, the competitor cannot do any harm by simply copying your site. You will not be penalised, only the duplicated site of your competitor will.

So, I think, you can just hope, your competitor will try to do that, so you will know that he is wasting time ;).
