Dropped from the Mountain Peak To rock bottom! - Google.co.uk
Hey Friends..
Seems like its a global drop.. one of my sites went deep down below the sea after being there on rank 3 since a long time. What could be wrong? here's something that was/is done on the website 1. Natural Links Building, Relevant one way links 2. Content addition (Unique and genuine) 3. slight internal links anchor texts adjustments 4. inner pages links building, again with natural anchors Just 2 days back the site was at # 2 with allinanchor query as well # 3 on the main keyword at UK serps.. Now, Nowhere in allinanchor, Nowhere in Googl Serps For THIS VERY MAIN Keyword only. Been 3 days now ad no sign of it coming back anywhere on any DC... Google recently made an update.. Could be a penalty? if so what kind of it..? ant most important of all Why? Have called on Google to look into it through webmaster tools and G forums, lets see what do they do.. All other keywords for which it ranks are stable. Just this one Dropped and disappeared out of Index. Any Ideas to share are most welcome and appreciated.. -LKS

I have been wondering about something for a while in relation to a few things I have been reading. I am starting to think that Google may classify sites to theme relevance infrequently. When your site gets reclassified it can cause some previous search terms to drop suddenly if you are no longer classified at the same level of theme relevance to that term as you were before. Changing, titles, content etc may change what google considers you relivent to.
Pure speculation....

Use a backlink checker to find out which sites are backlinking to your site
also are their any problems in google webmaster tools account ? check your site content make sure its not dupicated - use copyscape |

This has happened to me in terms of language and relevance. At first i thought it was geo targeting but it happened when a word means the same in multiple languages. Google got confused so put the relevancy on one language and so ranked the english pages in france, germany etc above the actual language section. Google seems to be testing out algos which obviously are not working... Quite infuriating... |

In any case, titles and content still depict the relevance of the website on a broader note.. But this one is too bad. From 3 to Nowhere means something drastic has been executed by us or may be Google? I can PM the URL though, just in case you would want to take a look and catch something that could be wrong.. |

I'll take a lil more time before I come up with a white flag! All I can say is, I can share the URL through PM, only if you could spare out a moment to have a glance at it and pick out any wrong deeds.. Regards Last edited by lovekills_s : October 6th, 2008 at 05:19 AM. |

Agreed, it is only been happening for the past 1-2 months for me. My site is 7 years old, the other is 9 years old, both have the issue... |

A few people on here have been experiencing drops relating to content changes (generally quite large ones), only to be back up to previous position within a week or so.
I wonder whether or not there is a data gathering or queuing period after a change is noted so the site can be re-assessed. It may be an anti-malware or spam measure. A temporary sandboxing. That's my guess. |

Umm nothing of that sort, content is stable, no malware or spam.. Looks like a relevance thing or cud be that natural anchors did not work and spoiled the page relevance %age by diluting it.. cud be.. can just try a few direct anchors for the new links.. lets see what happens..
Any way out to get it back in SERPS for that particular keyword? Like i said, all other keywords are stable.. just this one took the U-turn.. guide plz |

Hi LKS, Sorry about your ranking loss. This sounds exactly the same phenomenon which happened to one of my site. It went from # 4 to nowhere. My questions: *Did you get too aggressive with internal link anchor text optimization ? *Did you have the targeted keyword in 80% plus quality IBL’s? What I did: => Eased on the internal link anchor text over optimization ( ensured it fell within top 10 range ) => Secured few quality back links with anchor text which did not contain the targeted keyword. It took 36 days to be back in top 10 for main keyword along with significantly improved rankings on secondary & tertiary k/W rankings my 2 cents & best wishes for regaining top spots.
