    Drop in rankings

Just logged on and checked my rankings and a lot of them have fallen overnight!

Just can't understand this especially as I have bought some quality links for them in the past month (PR 8)

And it's not as though the other sites in my arena are SEO their sites.

    Is anyone else experiencing this?

    Georgia Update theory

We've been bamboozled, or more correctly, we've been Froogled.

My theory about this latest update, which for lack of a better name, I'll call the Georgia update, because it is so close to Florida, is that Google is trying to steer e-commerce sites into their revenue-generating operations, such as AdWords and, some day, Froogle. And that they have identified the e-commerce sites from Froogle and are using Froogle categories from data feeds to accomplish this.

    Here's some observations:

I have 2 clients, one that's been sending a feed to Froogle for a year and one that hasn't. The one that hasn't has been unaffected by Georgia. The one that has been feeding it's products and categories to Froogle has fallen drastically in almost all categories. However not so much for product brand names. (Of course, they wouldn't want to knock brand names down or there would be a lot of complaints from the brand owners.) I've been tracking the serps everyday for most categories and products on both of my sites so I have a good sized sample of data.

I'd be interested to know if any of you sending a feed to Froogle saw similar results, or if you don't feed Froogle, were you unaffected?

Here's a little test of the theory. Go into Froogle and pick one of their categories and then do a search on it in Google. Take the number 1 site and search for it in Froogle, in that category. If it's not there or if it's one of the "automatically extracted from web pages" results, then something's fishy.

But here's the clincher. Take the top Froogle result from any Froogle category and try to find it in a Google search of that category. If it's not in the top 30, you gotta wonder why. From the few that I tried, they're not even in the top 100.

    GG are you out there?

I didn't want to say that, because someone will say your crazy... but it seems like that would be an easy way to figure out if a site is e-commerce or not. Strange that we fell shortly after submitting to Froogle. Others have stated the same. Could just be coincidence.

Just before Christmas, Google put the Froogle link on their homepage. People scrambled to submit to Froogle, shortly after... Florida happened. So, it just may seem like Froogle is the cause, they could have other ways to figure out e-commerce from non.

They could also put you in e-commerce if you don't fall into a different category like expert, edu, gov, etc... but who knows.

I would like to know how many people that are in Froogle are not effected though.

I just redid my web site this past week. As of less than 24 hours ago I was still holding my long time #1 postioning for several key phrases. Even through the Florida thing I stayed constant. I have no affiliation, feed or anything else with Froogle. I dropped from #1 to #17.

What the heck is going on? When I revamped the web site I changed it's look but didn't touch the main pages for text content since I was doing so well, I didn't want to mess with it.

Checking the "dance machine" it appears stable like there's no dancing going on, unless I'm reading it wrong.

Yeah, Froogle may have nothing to do with it directly... but indirectly you would think they are going to push everyone to Froogle. Which is likely what they want - and adwords.
