Dramaticlly lost positions
Hi Guys,
I just have a query that is in my mind for some time, early this week my site was ranking around page 2 -3 average for some of the terms like "website design" and all of a sudden I dropped to around 900+ search results, I do not understand why I have checked the quality guidelines from Google and I doubt I have done anything wrong.
However I got a message from Google in my webmaster tools stating about my other site detected as Trojan virus which I have no information about, I also noticed not found pages increased but this was partially to do with my blog but yet I have no clue to why, I placed a "custom 404 page to resolve this issue.
Can somebody please take a look and give me feedback if possible? Thanks ever so much

Is your site database-driven?
I don't know your architecture, but check for a possible sql injection attack.
We have come by this before. A sql injection attack is when someone figures out how to run DECLARE and EXECUTE statements on our tables through the URL string (usually) or perhaps form submits. It's a nasty little technique. First they determine your data schema, then they hunt for any varchar / text fields. Then they UPDATE them to add javascript or other external calls to scripts hosted somewhere else.
End result, while your site doesn't exactly host the malicious script, it is the enabler because anyone who loads one of your web pages that hits a field in the database that has been tampered with ends up calling a virus / Trojan script from a bad place. This type of attack essentially transforms your site into a proliferator (is that really a word?).
Google finds these sites quickly and starts removing from the index, or says "This site may be dangerous". Also, Firefox usually throws a warning on the site too.
GOOD NEWS: Once you clean everything up and are clean for about 3-7 days, everything goes back to where it was.
Hoping this is not your problem. But it's possibly instructive for others to read about.

Shared hosting servers can also cause problems. If malicious software reached the server (be it through your site or someone else's), it could spread to other directories on the server and reach your site.
Most reputable hosting companies have ways of preventing this, but might be worth checking out if all else fails.
