Domain/dup content question

if i register mysite.com and put tons of content on it, and then buy another domain and just add "the" in front of "mysite.com" (so it would be themysite.com)

would i get dumped for dupe content

would i be able to put a 301 on one of the domains and not be penalized?

any ideas?

If you are talking about 2 similar domain names one having content and forwarding it to the other one - then no probs - go ahead!

Greetings,
So to paraphrase / confirm it is ok to have multiple domains parked and forwarded to the primary site?

I have a few domain registered around the same theme, but they point no where, as i thought this would penalize you for duplicate content.

Basically im just holding onto the domains.

Is it then wrong to promote or utilize these fwd'd domains? like google ads, link exchanges.

Thank you as always for sharing your knowledge.

Hi
It's ok to have as many domain as you want (I think) as long as you redirect them to your main domain. this is because if some one links to example.com and some one else links to example-example.com but they are in fact the same site google will index both sites seperatly and you will be penalised for dup content.

Also

example.com
and
www./example.com

are 2 different sites according to google and will be indexed as such. you will need all domains, all www. and all non www. to be redirected to 1 domain other wise you run the risk of a lot of dup content.

Thank you, that is a very good explanation.
