    Domain 301 redirect for PR on windows servers.

    Hi,

    I read many articles trying to find out the way to use 301 redirect for both moving single pages and for domain redirect (www . mysite . com to mysite . com )

    I just can't figure out how to do it in my situation. My site is hosted on a shared windows 2003. I have no physical access to the server and all my site is static, HTML files only.

    In my case, no .htaccess. There is no control panel setting for redirection with my hosting service and if i understood correctly every articles i have read, i can not use the following code because my pages are not .asp but .html

    <%@ Language=VBScript %>
    <%
    Response.Status="301 Moved Permanently"
    Response.AddHeader "Location", "http : // www . domain . com/new-page . asp"
    %>

    So my question is, how can i use 301 domain redirect or for a single page that was moved when a website is hosted on windows and that the webiste is fully static ?

    Thanks all for your help, i have read many articles but just can't find out how.

    Good day,
    Bob

    Thanks for the link but it is not helping me. It is the same solution that i see everywhere. I can not implement this code onto .html files.

    Unless there is something important i am missing due to english misunderstanding, this solution is good only if your website is dynamic, build with .asp pages.

    What is the solution with a static website hosted on windows servers ?

    Thanks, hope somebody will clarify this for me.

    This should help if you have admin access to the server;

    As it states, if you don't have access you ust contact the admin.

    Have you checked with your host to see if there's a rewrite component installed on your server? (eg. ISAPI Rewrite or similar)

    Though I ask my hosting provider again & again, he not give me any reply, I want to change my hosting to another one who provides best services with nice support.

    Thats why I am asking here for other method except server side.
    I am really thankful for your help.

    You might try an IIS redirect?

    Checkout this one:

    http://www.webconfs.com/how-to-redirect-a-webpage.php

    Look for IIS redirect, and you can probably request your host to do this one for you..

    Does someone's host will agree to do this, whatever is defined in the above link?

    <snip>
    .htaccess does not exist on IIS AND he has said 3 times he doe not have root access to the server. If you are going to try and promote yourself as an SEO expert on a forum as your first post, best to read the post first.

    There is no such thing as a non-server side 301 redirect. A 301 redirect by definition is server side, and all non server side redirects are bad for SEO.

    On IIS, there are several ways to do 301s, all referenced above. Either you need to use ASP/ASPX code on the given page, or you can do it via IIS itself, using the built in functions or a 3rd-party addon like ISAPI Rewrite. In all cases, you need to either be able to process pages via the ASP engine OR have access to the IIS Control Panel.

    And if i understand correctly, i can't use the ASP code solution because my website is static .html files right ? So it means that for those having only a static website, hosted on windows, we can't have an easy solution to implement 301 redirect.

    Thanks brandall, your suggestion is great but again my site is in HTML not in asp. Now I serious to change host from Microsoft to Linux server because my host provider dont give me response at all. Its my bad experience about hosting service.
    Once again thanks to brandall & all who gave best suggestions.
