    does <noscript> really hurt rankings?

I've been reading where some people say Google is penalizing for the use of the <noscript> tag because it has been abused.
I use it on all my home pages so I'm a little concerned.
Does anyone have any info on this, true or false?

No, but I do like to check things out if they can effect me and they sound feasible.

Check the credibility of the person making the claim. I have never seen anyone with credibility in the SEO industry make that claim.

It may be easy for you to check someone's SEO credibility but not for a novice like myself. I first read about it on stackoverflow.com & then found another article about it that sounded authentic. The reason I asked the question here is to see what those on this forum think about the credibility of what I read. I have no way of knowing if you're any more credible than the ones making the claim. Hopefully some other members on the forum will chime in & agree with you so I'll have no reason to doubt your credibility.

If you are not deceptive with the noscript tag then you are fine.

JavaScript: Place the same content from the JavaScript in a <noscript> tag. If you use this method, ensure the contents are exactly the same as what’s contained in the JavaScript, and that this content is shown to visitors who do not have JavaScript enabled in their browser. https://support.google.com/webmaster...er/66353?hl=en

    Thanks for the info,
In my case the only thing I use the <noscript> tag for is a warning to inform users that the page will not work without javascript enabled. I have a lot of formulas & calculations on the pages written in javascript so the pages can be viewed but they will not be functional without javascript enabled. I read where a guy added a <noscript> warning like that & his hits & rankings went down considerably. Some even recommend putting <noscript> at the end of the html coding & use css to put the warning on the top of the page for SEO reasons.
