Does Google allow this?
I have a "Link to Us" page on my website, with an html code of my banner, encouraging people to give me one way links. If I offer anyone a 10% discount on my products for certain organizations that link to my site, (using my banner) as "link bait", will Google allow this? I don't want to do anything that will harm my Google optimization or page rank, please let me know if this is allowed. Thanks so much

If they are text links, Google will likely see them as one way links. Worst case is that Google may find out they are actually paid links (due to a product discount offer) and discount them. I doubt if G is that smart yet. What would be a real killer is if they are relevant and paid for through product discounts. Nice trick if you can do it.

Could "worst case scenario" mean being blacklisted by Google?, or just not having the links counted? I figure even if the links aren't counted, that it should at least bring me more customers...Thanks again

So sorry... the above "disagree" is an early morning no coffee mistake. I meant agree. I will make up the rep points when I am allowed to give them to you again. Sorry!
Edit: Wit jumped in and saved my bacon (early morning pun). Thanks Wit... Is Wit back?
I know better than to sit at this darn keyboard pre-coffee. It is like watching a monkey type. Well... off to make coffee.

The interesting thing is that Google would normally discount links bought for PR purposes, but in your case they would have no way of knowing which of your links are "paid for"...
So it's just possible that they might discount all links with the exact anchor text used in your request... or maybe just reduce your "trust level" (which would - in effect - be a penalty).
In any case it's probably a good idea to alter the requested anchor text periodically as it would mean that - if they do catch on - it might make things a little less easy for them to figure out.
Also - varying the anchor text will make them less likely to spot a pattern in the first place and will most likely improve your traffic & strengthen your serps performance over time.

Please help me understand, so this can be fixed
Please help me understand the rep points, and what exactly happened, also, when and how can I get them back? I don't want to start off with a negative balance...Thanks,

Hi Faith,
The comments above didn't refer to your rep points...
If you check the first post made by gazzahk (in this thread) he has a "disagree" from SEO_AM ("SEO_AM disagrees: Right-o") which was an error, detracting from his Rep Points... and underneath that comment you'll also see an "agree" from Wit which gave him the RP's back...
So - basically - it's nothing for you to worry about... however - for your edification - an explanation of the RP system is available here

It's reasonable to assume that companies which find your services 'useful' would link anyway... the "discount" is a thank you...
Let's face it - if they hate you or your service they ain't going to pay a dime so "links" are extremely unlikely...
