does google actually pay attention to spam reporting?

I have contacted them through the spam report page a number of times regarding:

    http://www.bizplanit.com/doors/

    and

    http://www.bizplanit.com/planning/

yet they do nothing....these are blatant doorway pages for goodness sake. Why don't I just start doing this?

Does this mean they just don't care or what?

I do not think so. I have been reporting some very obvious spammers for months and not getting a response. I think they only attack the honest guys that make mistakes.

Clearly they don't. Even the Googleguy says they have stopped relying on spam reports.

With increasing cheating on Google and they just don't care about that is why I and others have come up with new strategies to join in see the thread on "High PR through crosslinking with offsite discussion board".

If you can't beat them - JOIN THEM! It's the only way to compete!

I seriously think the search engines have no more than two or three years of life. The Google search results quality decreases every dance (the same, of course, for Altavista and Fast).

Sometime any internet guru will wrote that the Google results are plenty of harcore sex pages and a really big ****load. These day, the directories will be in the top again. The web need too the human touch.

Which goes back to my question. Why do they have a link that says "help us make this search better" (ie: keep our domination)....but they do nothing about it?

I would think they get tens of thousands of spam reports a day.

Since it takes them 4-6 weeks to even review a site to add, it would take them years to catch up with banning sites.

Besides, they think they are the best search engine with no flaws.

If they started banning sites it would make them look as if their engine/alogrithims aren't the best which should catch spammers.

I hope and believe that there use it to improve there search result > but I believe it takes time to upgrade the software > that there able to detect “spam”.
For my search keywords > I find always in the top 10 > 3-4 redirect sites.
One day > if there don’t take control about it > it will be 10 sites in the top 10, no user will accept this.
    Let’s hope and see.

My impression (and I think GG confirmed this from memory) is that spam reports are used to collate the problem areas and not to nail particular sites.

For instance if they get 10000 spam reports about hidden text and 50 about doorway pages, then they work on the algorithm to tighten hidden text. Only in exceptional circumstances will individual sites be penalised.

    So a question:

Why we don't try the same ways for our web sites with hidden texts & link & doorway pages? If there is a problem with the Google crawler we can use it like our competitors did it before no?

    See ya

What I have in mind: and again> I have no ranking yet > and just wait what will the next google dance bring.
But I adjust each page to one single keyword.> including the contend of the keyword.
So in my believe > instead to create a redirect page > I give a real page with the contend of the keyword.
If it works> the user get his contend as search for and find my other pages and hopefully my service.
But again > that’s perhaps a humble dream of my little site.
But why it shouldn’t work? User happy, google happy, me happy!?
    Learning by doing
and in the longterm i believe google will work agains "spam"

I would have to completly disagree with everyone. I have had very good success at getting sites punished for spamming. I just use their spam report form at http://www.google.com/contact/spamreport.html.

I have reported about 6 sights for cloaking and hideing keywords, and they all were removed from the index, and haven't been back in since. The odd thing is that they weren't given a PR of 0, they weren't given anything at all. It was like Google wasn't even reckognizing that they ever exhisted. One thing I have notived is that if you check the cloking box, it gets looked at much faster. I think they are paying very close attention to cloaking.
