Do I stand a chance?

Hi,

I have been reading a lot about SEO etc for the past few months and now feel like I have had an information overload.

I have built the site 101prints.com and think that I have made it relatively SE friendly. Can anybody offer any advice. I want to avoid paid listings if possible but would like to rank on page 1 or 2 of google for the following keyphrases...

1. Limited edition prints
2. Limited edition photographic prints
3. Canvas prints

I may employ the services of an SEO expert to help me. Thoughts welcome!!

It sounds like what you are doing is fairly niche so a little guy can certainly win out. You just need to keep your site active with lots of fresh relevant content and keep promoting this content.

I know that's pretty lame advice but it'll work.

Adding new content shouldn't be a problem. I also thought about uploading some articles/tutorials on the site to hopefully pull in some traffic.

When you say keep promoting, I have read about a lot of methods but what would you suggest for my industry?

I've no idea what will work with your industry...that's your job ;)

How about looking into some blogging software and keeping an art news blog as part of your site.

My advice is to find a few of competitors who are ranking well in Google. Go to Yahoo Site Explorer and find their backlinks and go through them. If a directory consider listing your business there. If a static link use the contact us page or whois toi contact the webmaster for a link. If it is a forum set up an account and link to your site. Try some social bookmarking. You get the idea. boring work but needs to be done to get to page 1 of Google for competitive keywords.

What you need are backlinks that have the words

Limited edition prints
Limited edition photographic prints
Canvas prints

in the link text

Posting blog comments would be a good way to do that
