    Do content copycats (plagiarism) hurt original website rankings?

    Hi all,

    Found some websites stolen our content and using the same sentences in their website pages. Does this content hurt our website rankings? Their DA is low, still we are worried about the damage about this plagiarism.

    Thanks

    No it should not as long as;
    1) You were the original publisher and your site with the content was indexed first
    2) You have a canonical URL reference to the content on your site

    My quick check for this is to search for the entire search string of text in quotes "entire string from your site into google search" and then see which site ranks first. If yours ranks first you are OK, if not then you probably have a problem.

    Also, check the URL and any manual actions in Google Search Console.

    If you are the original publisher and someone copies you it should have 0 effect.

    I could even see it going the other way - if you are frequently copied it must be of some value. (I'm not really suggesting that is a ranking signal, as if it were the web would be self spammed to death).
