What do you think about directories backlinks, are they still work? I saw websites growing fast in google SERP based almost only on directory listings. Can you share some good of them? Thanks

Directories are also important in SEO, Every SEO professional know directory results are too late. If today you will submit website link in directory site. Then firstly approval time is min 15 days or 1 month. Then second one is when google or search engine crawled your directory link may be in 3 day, 5 days or more.
But if you get backlinks from lot of directory sites, it means your site have very strong backlinks.

Backlinks from reputed directories (like, Yahoo! and BOTW) are valuable... But you cannot rely on directory backlinks alone. As backlinks from an average directory won't do wonders for your website.

not just look at the directories, also try to get backlinks from the good PR sites of your site category, then only your website will perform better (get good ranking) on search engines i.e. mainly on google. all the best

But if them in conclusion with the regularly added content wich is original and not copied from competitors then it could be an easy way to do seo, even site can go up quite well only with content and without links at all, but you have to work on the content harder then, this is my opinion

ahh we have debated this Link vs content subject before and what I feel that great content help you to get good links, content alone may win you for not competitive SERP but for something more competitive you need strong links to outrank your competitors.
OP – yeah still some directories provide good links but posting at any random Directory will not have any benefit in most of the cases and not worth your effort at all.

Directory submission helps to get a one way quality backlink. But try to get backlinks from the niche & high pr directories...

Directory submission is a great way to build links from beginning of web. But now a days there are many spammy directories which don't have any SEO value, even there pages are not cached by major search engines. If you submit your website on great directories like Dmoz, yahoo then certainly it will help in getting better ranking in SERPs.
