Different KW's for different page.

Using my own site as an example:

The main keyword is ebook advertising;

I also have a page/s which are for articles, do I change the KW's for this page to articles or will it mean that my index is linked to an interenal page which is not relevant content, so lose some popularity.

Its not about how many pages you have "optimized" for keywords, it is about what is on those pages for the visitors...

You should target different keywords/ phrases on different internal pages. More precisely, you should target different aspects of your overall topic on different pages. I doubt that you'll end up with a bunch of unrelated pages if you do that since you probably keep a common navigation structure, layout, etc.
