Difference Between Backlinks and Google Webmaster Links to page

I want to know the difference between backlinks and Google Webmaster Links to a Page.Please clear me this concept

The Google link: command in the Google search engine displays a random selection of back links. It does not show you all of the back links that it knows of.

Google Webmaster Tools shows you a more complete list of backlinks to your site.

There is no difference in what the back link is, just the way that they are displayed and reported on. Google made the move not to display all back links quite some time ago. I believe this was to prevent attempts from SEOs to back engineer their algorithm.

Yahoo Site Explorer is quite a useful tool for back link discovery. It has been reported that this may disappear, however its still with us for the moment.

Always be careful when using SEO Analysis tools. They are just tools and they can only report on the data set that they have. They are not always 100% accurate. It is always important to be aware of any uncertainty before making any decisions about your search engine marketing strategy.

Thanks for replying so in-depth, ts. I had been wondering the same thing as when I do my site on linkpopularity there is a huge difference between each of the SE's, particularly high for yahoo and discouraging low for google.
