Thumbs up

Send an email to help@google.com asking them.

They generate a tracking number.

There is no way to determine exactly what they think a scraper site is, because they've never defined it.

Dito

I have also had my site delsited from google.

I previously had top rankings in google for 100's of terms.

The site is nearly 2 years old and had over 7000 pages cached in google.

I too joined link vault in mid may and thought that it could be that?!

I am going to sit tight but I am missing out on over 600-700 uniques a day...I rely too heavily on google must add some other parts to my marketing mix!!

Yup, my site was just delisted as well. It's very old, registered in 1996. It had at least 10,000 pages indexed. I did very little linking or advanced SEO stuff. I've been getting a lot of referer spam lately, but, I don't think that's linked anywhere on the site. I've emailed help at google to see if they can identify it.

I have reason to believe Yahoo dropped 2 of my sites in June likely for using Rankingpower, also a couple different people told me Yahoo has been dropping affiliate sites, so I am tending to blame RP for any search engine problems until I get an answer back from Google.

I sent a message to Google to inquire about their policy regarding Rankingpower and similar programs, and I will be sure to post any replies I get back.

delisted from google pr4 to 0

I don't use ranking power for my site. I was checking my raw logs and googlebot visited 2 times around 5:05 am this morning for robots.txt file. Of course google toolbar is still at 0. I'm going to just go outside for a while a come back later. Maybe it will gewt indexed again back into google. I hope!

Cool My Site

Today G finally noticed the .htaccess file change I made a few weeks ago. Our KWs that were appearing under "domain.com" are now listed as "www.domain.com". It looks like G is just doing some house cleaning. Give it about a week and all will be well.

But for those using affiliate programs or scraping, now might be a good time to panic!

This is getting to be bigger a problem than I originally suspected. So far, there isn't a common thread of everyone more or less doing the same thing (whether it be advertising programs, affiliate content, link structures, etc). It "could" be collateral damage for the scrapers, but assuming (perhaps incorrectly) that Google's definition would fall under the lines of duplicating content, I can immediately rule out 4 of the sites I manage that are completely unique.

Maybe the collateral damange is a bug in the caching system -- Google has always had the tendancy to overtweak, then scale back a bit...but this doesn't look like a tweak so much as someone spilling beer on the server.

Googlebot

For anyone who has been banned recently;

Out of interest is the googlebot still visiting your site and if so with what sort of frequency?

Surely if we have all been banned then googlebot would not bother to visit the site??

Cool Algo Update?

So I'm running through my KWs and noticing a lot of my "top 10s" are now placing 50+. I'm also noticing a lot more government, "yellow pages" (ie. superpages.com, etc.), and news stories up higher (top 20s) that were not there 2 days ago. Many of these are not even about the KWs but just mention them in passing. Also, there are about 30% more results (Results #-# of about ###) being returned.

So, G has updated its cache? Added more sites? Altered the algo? Anyone else noticing this?

Usually by when it was indexed (who got there first) or by PR (whoever has the most inbound links is probably the originator). It is not a perfect solution.

I have noticed googlebot beginning to spider most of my dropped sites today, but it's weird how it spidered my index.html homepage 6 times in a row. One of my best sites has not been respidered by googlebot yet today. Also, Google Adsense banners are functioning fine on my homepages. Wouldn't they fail to work on a banned site?

Yesterday, assuming my Rankingpower pages might be the problem, I added the following example in robots.txt on one of my more important sites:

User-agent: Googlebot
Disallow: /rp pages/
etc...

I do have a small directory on my sites, but it's my own reciprocal links directory - no scraper pages.

In a sense, Rankingpower creates a kind of directory of other sites, but nobody seems to know if Google has banned Rankingpower or not.
Fred
