    The correct redirect

I have a site (a so colled "directory site").

I am curently using heder redirect for the sites listed in the directory.

I saw that this forum also uses a redirect for the ouside links and I am wondering which is the right method to do the redirect without loosing pagerank.

    Thanks in advance.

You will want to track the number of outgoing links in order to provide these results to potential listees (is this a word?).

So you will need to do some sort of redirect to store the information.

    Look how Yahoo handles it.

A am curently counting the number of clinks on a certain link but I do not know how it's best to do the redirect with header redirect or with javascript (so that google will not consider my site a link farm).

I am wondering what kind of redirect SEO is doing.

On Salt Lake Sites I wanted to count the hits, so I use a server side redirect. You will notice that most the hits go to a program called lnk.php?id=???. Google and others hit my server side redirects heavily. To reduce the load on my database, I decided to exclude lnk.php in robots.txt. (This seems to save about 20,000 database hits a month.

Of course, the sites I am linking to don't get a PR boost from me, but I didn't develop the program to boost people's PR...I designed it as a directory for end users.

This program was easy to implement, and is fast.

To my surprise, my hits from Google increased after I excluded lnk.php. So I don't think Google penalized me.

You would end up loosing PR with a header redirect....Try going the javascript way
