Consolidating two similar pages, good or bad idea?

Hi all,

Two pages of my website www.theautolocksmithco.uk started out targeting different keywords but have now become very similar in content.

The 2 pages are:

1) Lost car keys page http://www.theautolocksmith.co.uk/lost-car-keys.html

2) Replacement car keys page http://www.theautolocksmith.co.uk/replacement-car-keys.html

I have recently learned the importance of using synonyms and believe these two pages should work better as one. I would perhaps remove the "replacement car keys" page and add this info to the "lost car keys" page.

After all these topics are very similar and I believe Google could be confused about the two at the moment because I have mentioned replacement car keys in the lost car keys page to build on use of synonyms.

Would love to hear what people's thoughts on this and the best way of doing this.

Really need to get up the top for "lost car keys" and "replacement car keys"

PLEASE can someone offer some good advise here? The competition all have very poorly optimised pages so should not be to difficult.....but I just cant crack this one.

Thanks in advance,
Mark

If you can, try to have one page optimized for those two keywords. If you think the content is too similar if you will have two pages, having them combine into one is better because you will avoid duplicate content.

In that case you will have to decide on one URL, then 301 redirect the other URL to your final URL. Before doing this, there are some risk,

1. That doing redirects can affect the current rankings if they have.
2. May take some time for Google to pickup those 301 redirects.

Thanks Emerson,

This is what I am planning on doing, just wanted to hear it from you you guys that it was the best way of going about things.

Could I pick your brains for any other on pgae pointers to improve ranking for "Lost car keys"?

All other keywords like "auto locksmith" and "keys locked" in car I am well up top for, but for some reason I am struggling with this one even though I think I have done everything right.

Thanks again
Mark
