click thru importance
does anyone know if google takes into account how often visitors click thru to a site from a google search ?

Normally no .. the urls are linked directly without passing through google.
However, sometimes (especially during a dance) you see the results linked like: http://www.google.com/url?sa=U&start=12&q=http://www.domain.com/&e=1102 ... which 302 redirects you to the page. Not sure what they are actually for .. but interesting to note :> Lowell |

Also note that while Google doen't track clicks, Yahoo does, and they use Google's data.. Although whether or not they share that information with Google is another thing!!
Does the amount of clicks determine how your site is ranked? NO.. Although some onlder engines like altavista do (or at least did) take such factors into consideration.

As Lowell says, they occasionally monitor click through rates, using a redirect counter.
As Darrin says, Yahoo does it all the time, Google just do it now and again and often only for US users. Gringo. |
