Lightbulb Class C IP range and it effects on Ranking Position

Hi!

What is the effect of getting back links from websites which share same class 'C' IP range, on Ranking Positions? I have read at many places that if you own more than one website, then you should host them on different class C IP range before you do cross linking. Why?? Google is an ICANN registrar and can easily access domain registration information. If multiple domains are registered to a single business and at a single physical address than what different Class C Ip range will do?Google will find out easily that all sites belong to single business. We have a 'Class C Checker tool' on seochat.com, so there must be very good reason behind all this.

Thanks

The WHOIS info for domain names is pretty weak in that it's easy to put in spoof details... (even if Google do use it to relate domains, i have yet to see conclusive proof one way or the other).

So keeping on seperate class C networks and keeping the ownership details of domains unique you make sure that you cover all angles.

So either way if they find out through Whois or class C they will penalize you? I would like to know since my boss has several domains that are linked to each other but they are on different class c ip addresses. I am going to check the whois but I am sure they are the same. I am going to try and talk him out of this arrangement if it is bad for him.

No evidence supporting it as being "bad".

I have linked from an authority to a non authority on the same c-class and seen the benefits of the link. So I venture to say it has little to do with SERPS.
