I'm new here but I've been doing SEO for nearly 3 years and this week I've run into a wall! My company took over two other companies and we've had the old websites re-directed to the new website. However the old pages of the old companies which still appear on a search have broken links.
I realised I don't know if this can affect rankings for the new site. Can anyone advise me please?

Are the structuring and the url for the new site are same as the old one?
You had redirected every single page to its related pages in your new site?
Is it just the domain redirect?

We just had the homepages of the old companies re-directed. All other pages of the old sites are going no-where and it was suggested we get them deleted. I'm worried about the affect that would have on our rankings.

As said your company is looking to remove the old site and just to have the domain redirect. In this case you may be at risk of loosing the ranking that you may be having with the old site. I would refer you to go through this .
