I've read alot, read SEOMoz's (They are very good), read SEOBook's too.
The best information, most comprehensive and IMO trustworthy is what I found here in the threads.
Look for the stickies - They will tell you most of what you need to know to start

whatever tutorial, book, web site or forum you use to gain information I would advise having 2 or 3 sites of your own to work on during the learning process.

The best according to whom? The best with what?
Do you ask about the most popular SEO Tutorial? Or the most info-rich one? Or the tutorial decribing the most recent tricks? Or the one with the best examples? Or... ok name yourself
I beleive you should read everything you can reach to. Start from FAQ at SEO Chat. Read SEOMoz. Dive into SEO blogs. You can also find a tutorial in my signature below. Not sure, it is the best from any of the above points, though
Don't take on trust what anyone says, always test information yourself. At least try to. There are many aloudly proclaimed "truths" outhere, but not necessarily all of them are indeed true. Practice is the only criterion of truth. Especially in SEO.

As a practice one should refer varieties of blogs before applying anything. Because in seo you can not go with one's experience. Even the problems which look alike can have different solutions, respective to the property and condition. Thats why it is good to read couple of blogs instead of religiously following only one.
