banned terminology

Banned words on engines!?...are there any...what are they?..what are your experiences and recommendations.

I have mixed views...

Having been told by people (supposedly in the know) the certain words will not get indexed, even get you banned etc and thus you should look for alternatives / not include them on your site! (Such as many sexual expletives).

However, many sites do get indexed (many of mine too) both under these words and/or have such words in the site but get penalised. Then again i have dealt with companies who have experienced problems (apparently) such as an art dealer dealing with nude paintings.

Are people just not capable of getting these listed and don't want to deal with adult related site or ARE there words that are genuinely banned.

This is mainly with reference to google BTW.

IMO there are no words that are banned. I used to be an online marketing manager for an erotic company (Orion) and have optimized for virtually every erotic term there is at some time or other. None of which were not indexed and none of which were penalized. Some words may well raise a flag for manual checking. Such as "link farm" and suchlike :-)
Otherwise I don't think there are any taboo terms.

This is just what some supposed experienced SEO's have said + some clients who have experienced problems.

I can see the probs mainstream business have trying to compete on a potentially adult phrase - small fish big pool etc

Just not sure about the others...persoanlly i think these myths arise from peoples inability to get decent listings ;)
