Backlinks

So, I understand the best way to get your website noticed is by backlinks and that would be linking to other sites, blogs, etc?? Is there any way to optimize this?? Thanks

i think you may have got the concept the wrong way round. backlinks are links from other sites that point to your site.

there are a number of ways of getting backlinks but the most effective and long term strategy i believe is to have good quality content on your site that other sites will want to link to.

after you have good quality there are a number of strategies for getting your site in front of people, but for long term success i would advise that you focus on making your site as good ans useful as possible.

if you do this it will make any linking strategy far easier to implement.

I agree with Gerryd77 that natural link building is the way to go. Write quality content and visitors will link to your site naturally.

You can add your site in directories, use social bookmarking etc. also to increase your link popularity.

Using your targeted keywords as anchor text on your link building campaign can help you improved your SERP. If you have good ranking there is a possibility that your site can get notice quickly by your targeted visitors.

Link Building is a very important aspect of SEO. Good Linking strategy is a sure way to give boost to your website. But this is not the only thing that counts towards good ranking.
To my understanding, proper structure of your website and right content strategy is more important than link building. Your site is the base around which you are going to get the links. The more your site is "relevant" to the search term, more are the chances that your site gets good ranking. Links only add the weight to the "actual" thing.
Earlier inbound links and keyword density were the main factors to check the relevance of a site with the search term but by the implementation of LSI (latent semantic indexing) your content and themed structure of your site are the main factors other than quality links.
By LSI, Google determines the context of your keywords by comparing the context of the top ranked sites for that specific search term.
In summary quality content (considering search engine proven synonyms), proper structure of site and quality links should be the main considerations for your seo campaign.

gather more related backlinks to your site.. link baiting can also be helpful in getting traffic and also can possibly get a link from visitors that liked your site...

Links

It is an important task to select a relevant category for your site submissions in one way links.
While in link exchange you should take a relevant site for linking your site.
