Articles Section Vs Blog For Seo
I have an ecommerce site that deals in furniture.
I have an article segment within the site, where I write and post content on tips on home and decor, choosing mattress and furniture tips. I update the articles twice a week. 1 month ago, I started a blog within my website. So, now when I completed an article, I can choose to post it in the article segment or make it a little more personal and post it on my blog. (which is within the site as well.) I am now thinking of the following options, and would like the advice of the very nice people here on which is the best way foward: 1) Merge the "article segment" with the blog. So all new articles will be posted in the blog and there will be no more article segment. (The advantage this way is that I will have more content to post on the Blog.) 2) Post the new articles on the articles segment. But write a short fresh post on the blog (with a slighly different angle) with a link to the actual article on the article segment. (The advantage this way is that I have more content to post on the "Article Segment" 3) Keep both seperately, as of now. (The advantage is that I can now try to rank for 2 seperate sections in my site) Please advise which will be the best way foward for my site's ranking. Many Thanks! |

I would drop the article section and go with the blog. Mainly because the content is content either way you do it but the blog is more web 2.0/viral. In other words the blog has subscriber options, interactive features like comments, etc. These are all tools that increase visitor engagement and outreach.

Thanks again Egol. I guess I wouldn't be asking for the reason, I will follow your recomendation.
I think I know the reasoning behind the no. 2 choice. The objective of the blog post will be to really make the reader click on the link to the article. This way the bounce rate to my site will be greatly reduced. And if I do it right, both pages will still get credit for unique content. |

I make several short blog posts of two to three sentences each day. Most of them link to content on other websites.
These blog posts serve a scouts. They test where I can rank. They test where there is traffic. And, they test what my visitors are interested in. These tests inform the development plan for much longer articles. Those articles will be posted on the main site - but will also be featured in a two or three sentence blog post - because the blog has lots of traffic, lots of subscribers and usually shoots within hours to the first page of easy to moderately competitive SERPs. |

The 2º
I think You would be best the 2º (Post the new articles on the articles segment. But write a short fresh post on the blog (with a slighly different angle) with a link to the actual article on the article segment).
Thanks. |
