I don't see why they wouldn't be beneficial as long as you write good content to go with the links.

Article submission is a great 'link bait' tool. The more people who use your article on their site with link pointing back to yours can only improve your rankings.
I outsource my article writing so that I can be assured of its quality. |

It would be better if you submit your articles to article directory with good PR and at the same time blog it with a link inside the content of your article.

I just submitted an article to ezinearticles.com and it was indexed highly by Google the very same day it was approved.

The article you submitted or the one you linked to? As per the topic - early on it is hard to get exposure. Those sites are good ones to get seen. I write a more in depth article on my site and then put a brief one on the other sites with links pointing to my site. |

Isn't an article directory and ezine about the same thing? When I type in Article Directory at Google Article Dashboard pops up first. I consider that an e-zine. I have used a bunch of them including article Dashboard, ezine.com etc... |

Of course, posting articles in article directory can help you get higher page rank, that is, if your articles are in good quality and you have established a credible reputation. That means, you need to have a niche and your article are worth reading for.
These days, Ezine is the most popular article directory in the world. |

The article I submitted. It's quite lengthy and full of keywords and links to the homepage of my business website, the anchor text being keyword optimized. That's got to be a fairly decent link...yes? |

It is a link. It is better than no link and no exposure.
This is what I do. I write the lengthy article on my site. I then write a short synopsis and put it on the ezine with the link pointing to my better article. I don't point it to the home page. I want to build the rank up of the article. The last article I wrote for the ezines went right to the top of the SERPs. Now those ezine articles dropped and the article on my website ranks in the top spot in the SERPS. I don't know what your business it, but let's say it is mobile phones. Write an article about a specific phone. Make it a good one and post it on your site. Then write a synopsis but tell the readers that they can get more information at that page on your site. Then do the same thing for another phone. Last edited by Dan001 : August 21st, 2008 at 10:58 PM. |

Posting articles in article directory can definitely be beneficial for getting an improved page rank, provided the articles are informative, content rich. Also, ensure to make your submissions on popular article sites only.

In all this - the ultimate gainer is the article dir in which you will submit your articles.
Coz soon after you submit your article, the article page will move to the supplemental index due to lack of link equity to that page - the result your link running dry. Submissions in article directories won't have been a bad idea had the article sites been actively engaged in building links to not only their homepage but to every internal article page as well - since they don't do that, your link on their pages doesn't help much as well. Instead of feeding content to the article websites [which in turn helps them to sponge traffic through niche long tail keywords] submit the articles on your website/ blog Promote the articles on social bookmarking sites and social media sites such as DIGG, Reddit, Fark, Propeller etc and if your article is of really good quality, you will soon find your article gaining tons of links from related sources that will help your website to improve ranks and increase traffic. Now how does that sound?

Submitting your content to article websites is like writing for their website for free. Why would you give them your content for free? Just to get a link back to your site? There are Soooo many cheapers ways to just get a link back to your site. And a PR 0 link at that.
Why give ezine articles all the content, so that when people search for your keywords their site comes up, and not yours? Sure, it's your article, but it's on THEIR website, which means THEY get the traffic. Publish your articles and content on your own site, and generate links to it with social bookmarking and other linkbuilding means, etc.

I never tried to write one article for ezines websites. And I would never publish such article on my website because it will be considered by search engines as duplicate content.
However I consider it a good way to get incoming links with simple in a page containing relevant content. The article might get a lot of incoming links and I'm not sure all of them will be from PR 0 pages. |

I agree with you guys - don't spend too much time writing for others, but do spend some time promoting your site.
The advantage to the ezines / article directories is that they can be syndicated all over the Internet with links pointing back to your site. I have used them and seen results. We also use Digg etc too. But that gives one link back - plus I have read that Google is downgrading those links. Like I said - it is a link. Digg is a link. The more links the better. Use them all, but make sure the best content is on your site. See who is at the top of the SERPS and make better content than them. Don't forget about internal links too. Plus, send email to the content thieves. We sent out several emails today requesting sites to pull our content off of their site. Either pull our content off or take the first two paragraphs and link back to our site. Last edited by Dan001 : August 23rd, 2008 at 03:49 AM. |
