Its actually really funny, because I am fairly new to SEO and I am even tired of reading these types of post, But I KNOW at one point I had a thread out there like that. SO now its up to me to just skim them, but I really just advise ppl to search the forum first and than ask your question. I really don't want ppl to be put off too.
I can not remember, which I wish I could so I can give this person rep, but I remember someone saying SEO is a continual thing like a marathon. And with this mind set I find it very exciting to find out what the SE are doing and keeping up with it. Yes sometime i want to pull my hair out but with the right SEO techniques it could really be fun. my 2 cents |

Great advice, but some people will continue to gamble everything on ranking on Google because the potential rewards are so high. At the other end of the spectrum are the people who will do nothing but PPC because they have more control over it.

I'm guilty of relying on Google as my sole sales channel.
I'm seeing larger "stores" that sell simular items as my niche product pushing me down in the SE results. For my keyword, the top ten is really the top 5, because all the top ten have indented listings ( I really wish Google would only list the single, most relevent URL for a site, rather than list two!) Anyway, my counter-measures will include long-tail marketing. That is, ad words for very specific phrases. Hopefully the sales conversion per click will be good. I'll also be looking at offering my product at discount through traditional retail stores. Yeah - the internet business model was supposed to give consumers access to a wide variety of suppliers. And it does, but the searcher has to do some work. In my opinion, the searchers are (in general) lazy and most don't look past page one (they must think ranking = best quality & best price). When I shop on-line, I look at least 5 pages deep. The best deals not always on page one. Ed |

Exaggerating a bit are we? You have time to investigate 50 websites for the same thing? Surely when you say "finding a deal"... the deal isn't found in the Meta Description (or snippet). Most searchers find what they desire in the top 5 or at least on page 1... (actually #1 usually has what they wish) and while the frugal shopper is looking for a deal... surely higher or lower prices [deals] make no difference in SERP position so why would all the best deal be deeper?

Great thread Gazzahk:
We should add to the list "affiliate marketing."

Not exaggerating. When I'm looking for a supplier for a tool, machine, or supply to support my business, it pays to find the best price from a reliable vendor. A saying in business is, "you don't make money when you sell, you make money when you buy." I didn't say all the best deals are deeper. I said the best deals are not always on page one. Ed |
