Anything to keep us on Google!

Anything to stop us clicking through I guess?! (not like I take an interest in celebrities)

Interesting find Matt. Just another pushing down of organic search.

Seems Google really wants to shake the serps up hard.

I think that would encourage click-throughs personally.

Make no mistake, Google is doing everything in its power to keep people from clicking organic results where they make no money. This trend will continue until SEO as we know it is dead.

Yeah, possibly. I guess it depends on the question though.

If it was something which doesn't need an explanation, could be quick grab and go

I don't think any of us are trying to rank for celebrity related keywords though right?

KernelPanic, I am worried about SEO, but for different reasons. Consumer laws around the world will prevent Google from flooding the SERPs with ads, and consumers themselves likely wouldn't put up with it. Instead, Google will continue to find new, creative ways to display advertising in search, like they've done recently within map results, and probably soon with answer boxes. If anything, I'm more concerned about technology replacing SERPs, with search engines and voice finding more and more ways to provide instanteous results/answers to queries. "Browsing" will become less of a thing, and SEO will become more competitive, to the point if you're not in the top 1 or 2 spots, paid ads will become your only/primary option.
