I know this idea is not ground breaking; and I am sure you have read or heard it before, but I would focus on backlinks. If you have no where to really start you can post relevant content on blogs and begin article writing and posting.

Case in point, I actually wrote an article 3 months ago on ezine, and now it is a PR 4 article ( I have no idea how it got that high) so now I have 3 PR 4 backlinks that have great authority behind them linking directly to my page. These backlinks are great for a new webpage and will be there for a long time.

So I guess what I am saying is start with the little things and sooner or later you will move up. Good luck, and if you have questions feel free to pm me.

Lightbulb

First of all, Adwords are not going to improve your ranking in Google SERPs.

Secondly, Try to create some backlinks and the original articles are the best way. Also try blogs for it.

thanks for that, the problem i have is, we sell sheds, not a lot happens in the wood industry.

We have written a couple of docs that are for taking care of the shed, how to build a base etc.

We are at a brick wall that seems to get higher each day lol.

We are getting backlinks from the likes of our compitors on a link exchange which from the logs and stats give us a little boost.

Do people actually click the sponsered links? i personally don't as most of the time its not what your looking for

As others suggest gaining links will be th emost effective way of getting your SERPs to improve..

Can you post your domain in the format:

www dot yourdomain dot com

and the keyword terms you are targeting so we can take a look and see what we can suggest in this specific case.

Looking at the SERPs for "Garden sheds" on Google.co.uk you can find the following backlink numbers for the top 3 sites:

pos 1 - 224,545 backlinks (these guys must be buying links on a monster scale)
pos 2 - 977
pos 3 - 7,740

Then for your site:

Your backlinks - 45

You need to work on the backlinks to compete, as you can see it's not just sheer numbers that are important (as the pos 2 site has less than the pos 3 site).

Backlinks are out there to get, if you have no idea how to do it yourself I suggest that you engage someone to do it for you, as the investment will be worth it if you see an uplift in sales (you have to speculate to accumulate after all).

On site, after a very brief look, personally I would make the following changes:

1): Page title - I'd cut it down from the current long version to as simple: "Garden Sheds, Timber log Cabins & Summer Houses"

2): I'd change the h1 tag on the home page to "Garden Sheds" - you can do this by making the mention of "garden sheds" in the title div to be a h1 tag (and change the properties in the css to keep the h1 a normal size).

Thanks for that, wow they must be doing some thing large. btw way can i ask how you found the back links out?

Yep there is a big diff to what the top 3 have got, maybe worth looking for some one to look after a link campain.

Points 1 and 2 taken and will adjust, would the page title tag be better with simple words rather than a long version?

Check backlinks with:

http://tools.marketleap.com/publinkpop/

I've always gone for shorter title tags where appropriate as I'm of the opinion that the more text you put in there the more you dilute the juice. It's never done me any harm.

I always experience that in most of my site's keywords. It got stuck in top 5 and 6 position " two pages ". I just optimize a page for that keyword and build links on it using content linking and article and yesterday it moved to 4 place up to now. I wish it would stay or rank better. . .

A backlink from a website that has related content to yours will be more powerful than from an unrelated website, but take any link you can get.. links are good!

Have a look at this thread for some linkbuilding ideas/info
