After a recent site redesign we now have no Google Rankings!
We redesigned a website which had good Google listings previously. Almost as soon as the site went live the site dissapeared completely from Google. We've done everything by the book. Used 301 redirects etc etc and Google sitemaps and have now asked for 3 seperate reinclusion requests. I've never seen this before and am totally confused by what's happened.
The only possible issue that I can think of is the increase in the number of pages, but if anything this should only be a temporary problem. Its been over 4 months now since the new site went live. It still has a PR of 5 just to confuse the issue further and within the Google Webmaster Tools there are no issues highlighted. The website in question is for scis.org.uk You'll notice that even if you type scis.org into google search you don't get any details apart from a few pdf files. The client is obviously a little concerned as are we! HELP! |

Your site is in the google index:
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=site%3Awww.scis.org.uk&btnG=Search&meta= And you rank for your domain name: http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=www.scis.org.uk&btnG=Search&meta= So you haven't been dumped... I'll do some more digging.

Right... you say you used 301 redirects? How many pages did you redirect?
Going to www.archive.org and looking at the old version of the site the first 3 URL's i picked out: www scis org uk/search/menu_new.asp www scis org uk/search/ListAll_new4.asp?schType=106 www scis org uk/contact/contact_us.html all send me to a 404 page now and are not 301 redirected to the new version of the page. A reinclusion request will not do you any good as the site IS included in the index already, and does not appear to be penalised in any way.. What you appear to have done is thrown away all the page history of the old site ... and so you are starting from scratch again and your rankings have suffered I suggest you go through and put all the 301's in, though if it's been 4 months you may have stuffed it now, but you should do it just in case, and you'll pick up any backlinks that are pointing to old page URL's at the very least. |
