Affiliate feeds and cloaking affiliate links, do they hurt my site?

    Hi,

I just wanted to know if is a chance that cloaking an affiliate link will get my site penalized by any search engines?

    Sorry to sound paranoid.

It all depends... How are you planning on cloaking it? Some methods will work fine, others may cause problems.

I am using a 301 redirect for my affiliate links

    ex. www.mysite.com/go/affiliatename

Is this a bad way of doing it or is it safe?

If you need to do a redirect then 301 is the way to go.

As for cloaking I'd avoid it if at all possible. Google isn't fond of cloaking to begin with and if they catch it they may penalize you.

I just did a 301 redirect on my own site. I just wanted to know if the SE will penalize me for doing this and for sure.

Theres no way to be 100% for sure, however based on the information I have gathered and from what others here have shared I am quite certain that if you are doing a redirect a 301 redirect is the best way to go for SEO purposes.

yeah 301 are the way to go. I am just wondering if redirecting affiliate links period is ok with the SE's. Im not really doing it for SEO purposes, I am doing it for my visitors

    Thanks for the response.
