Is there any seo benefit to adding index.html at the end of your address for a certain page? I.e does it make the search engine prioritise it higher because it thinks it's an index page? I'm just looking at one of my competitions pages.
Thanks

No.
Actually, search engines can't be arsed what the URL of your homepage is, except maybe if it contains a couple of your favourite keywords. Google for example will happily value another page higher, if only because it has more inbound links. And rightly so IMHO: if an inner page is more relevant, then why plug the homepage? That would be of little value to the internet user.
Clever question BTW. Thanx![]()
Thank you for your reply dzine.![]()
FYI: When you visit any directory www.mysite.com/ (the root diretory) www.mysite.com/directory1/ when you put the / there or visit the root domain you are actually requesting a file called the directory index. On most servers this is a cascade of index.htm / index.html index.php etc.
So even if you don't put www.mysite.com/index.htm that is actually what is begin returned to the client (search engine or site visitor).
