    ad words and organic ranking

Can someone please explain to me how using adwords (paid) can help you rank higher.

My competitor just ranked higher than me - I just dropped down 2 overnight. I know they are using adwords I have always had a pretty strong site and keeping content fresh. I just don't understand the drop. I keep my content fresh by blogging ( I am a photographer) so blogging is really the only way to keep my content fresh - or am I wrong. I would love any suggestions to get me moved back up.

    Thanks in advance

I have never seen any correlation between using Adwords and organic positions. If you give us your domain we might be able to help

You are doing the right things. You have a website now you are learning how to rank it. For local SEO like you are doing I would look into a tool like MOZ Local and staart building local citations. (You can Google Local Citations)
Also keep placing relevant content on your website and from this content link to other relevant pages on your website. So if you had a blog about the best light to photograph children in, you would link from that page from the body using Photograph Children as the anchor to your Childrens Photography page.

Make sense? Do that for a bit and I bet you'll see improvement.

I was just about to say nice pictures, then realised you're a photographer!

I'd also remove the sitewide links to the theme and designer personally. Or at least turn them into no-follows.

    Code:
     <a rel="nofollow" href="example.com">The text</a>
Other than that, it's doing what KP said. And repeat.

Do not pay 99 bucks... You can remove the links your self.

Find the footer.php file for your theme,

It is generally located as follows .....

    wp-content/themes/your-theme-name/footer.php

(your theme name would be replaced with what your current theme name is )

Edit footer.php and either remove the links or add the "no follow" attribute. Personally I would remove them.

The simplest way to edit this file quite possibly for you would be.

Download the file to your local computer using your Cpanel File manager, then edit the file using notepad, and then upload the file back to the server.

Also I will mention your menu system on your site. I would suggest that you change the links to open in the same window instead of opening a new tab when you navigate your site. I find opening a new tab when you change pages on a site, to be quite annoying.

Well removing the links is up to you, at least add the "no follow" as Matt has suggested.

If you do edit your theme's files without creating a Child Theme, when/if the developer makes changes to the theme your changes will be lost. Not a big deal, just make copies of your changes in your computer or what I do is create a child theme. Lots of info on creating child themes online.

Holy cow, $99? really? That's terrible.

S'up to you, I'd personally remove though. If not, do nofollow them though, won't be doing your site any good

Not SEO related but I was just browsing your site. Every single navbar link opens a new tab, which is really annoying. If you could remove the "_blank" from the links that will stop that and make navigating around your site smoother.
