A few backlink questions

Hi all,

I got some great advice in an anchor text thread created a couple of days ago and posted some other backlink questions there as well. I'm thinking I should have created a new thread since it didn't have much to do with the original topic.

I'm still quite a newbie at getting this going so please bear with me:

1 - Do backlinks to your main site help the ranking of your various posts? In other words would backlinks pointing to http://mysite.com help the ranking for http://mysite.com/post/?

2 - Will internal links within your post content and related entries section help the ranking in the SERPs?

3 - I have a site set up so that a few of my links are within the sidebar of another site. When I check the backlinks for Post A, I see most of the posts from the site I am getting links from. When I check backlinks for Post B, I notice a different number of them. Is there a reason for that?

4 - Similar to Q#3, I am getting backlinks from some of the other sites posts (because it is in the sidebar). But I am not getting links from others posts from the same site. Will that come with more time?

Thanks!

Thanks! I wasn't sure about the internal links as they don't show up in one of my Tools (traffictravis). It shows all of the backlinks from outside sources, so I wasn't sure how important the internal links were.

Ok let me try #3 and #4 again. I know i'm bad at explaining . Ok so my Site (Site A) has 2 posts (Post A and Post B). The site I exchanged links with (Site B) has 2 posts (Post C and Post D). We exchanged links, and I have observed the following:

a - Post A has a backlink from Site B and Post C.
b - Post B has a backlink from Site B.

What I don't understand is why Post A and Post B do not have backlinks from Post D, and why Post B does not have a backlink from Post C.

Hope that helps quite a bit more, let me know!

Thanks!

Are you saying this is like a blogroll that he put you on or they put your link within the content of the post on each? Also, I wouldn't be too worried about whether or not you are in both posts as just having a link from one of the pages is a good start.

Be careful though. If you are new at this please know that too many link exchanges could be an issue with Google. Try to stay away from link exchanges.

One way Quality and relevant links are the best = Difficult to acquire
Reciprocal links or link exchanges are not as good =Easy to acquire

Yup exactly on a Blogroll. I don't have many backlinks yet but thought it might be a start.

Thanks!

One issue may be with how you are checking backlinks.

What are you doing to see your backlinks?

I use Yahoo! site explorer.

Google may give you confusing results.

I'm using Yahoo Site Explorer as well. These numbers seem to mathc TrafficTravis as well.

I was never sure if internal links helped as TrafficTravis seems to exclude them from their counts.

First I would start looking at Google Webmaster tools for what they are reporting back as it gives clearer info as of today.

second: Use SEOQuake to look at those links properly.

Third: ROOT domains are only voted once to your domain and page links are classed as a very very smaller vote.

Your first link form Site B will be passing the 99% of the linkjuice that it can pass and any other links to your domain from Site B will count towards Anchor Text ranking but will hardly pass any linkjuice.

CHeers,
Joe

Sweet thanks! Makes more sense to me now. So realistically if I wanted to get numerous backlinks for numerous posts of mine, i'd have to find distinct places for each link?

Send a message via Yahoo to balilong
regarding the blogroll or sidebar links...any limits for links to be placed in there? I might start removing some of those links I have on my site just to be safe and avoid Google issues.
